Coralius presents at the Dutch Testing Conference
LEUVEN, 8 February 2010 - Geert Lemmens, consultant at Coralius, will present at the Dutch Testing Conference on April 21st 2010 in Bussum, the Netherlands. The topic is "Defect Prevention: a wake-up call".
"In many existing software projects the focus of the test department is on defect detection instead of defect prevention. One can think of many reasons why this is the case. For instance, defect detection is rather easy to manage and certainly easy to measure.
But how do we measure defect prevention? Is there a way to calculate ROI? If we shift our attention towards defect prevention, what will be the impact on the test department? Shall we need fewer testers? Shall we test less? When do we start?
With this presentation, we will start from a traditional approach and we will show that there are many sources of defects. We will focus on the requirements as an early source of defect introduction and define methods for defect prevention. Will this have an impact on us as a tester? Of course, but this will also increase our added value to the project and it will reduce a lot of frustration about missing functionality, regression, avoidable bugs, etc. We will be spending less time on retesting the same software over and over again.
This presentation must be seen as a wake-up call, to redirect our focus and to redefine our goal, which is to contribute to the delivery of a qualitative product instead of patting ourselves on the back because we found a lot of bugs."
